The German Seck Mill was
acquired second hand in 1922 and is belt driven.. The top set
of rolls are set further apart than the lower set and are grooved.
Their purpose is to nip off the outer coat of the grain (husk)
and as far as possible leave it intact. The second set of rolls
crush the grain to grits and flour. A typical analysis of crushed
grain or Grist would reveal 50% husk, 40% grits and 10% flour.
These portions are critical to the brewing process.
